When our friends Janna and Kyle invited us to their wedding it was a no brainer that we would go. The wedding invite was enough to seal that decision. So along with my partner Dawn, and Kate our mad friend from Australia, we decided to combine the wedding with a road trip.
The venue was Mount Maunganui, a 28-hour flight away in the middle of New Zealand's North Island, so the very least we could do was book three weeks off work and get planning.
We decided that the best way to get the true flavour of New Zealand was to choose two or three areas we wanted to visit and then spend a few days there, rather than rushing manically from place to place.
The wedding at Mount Maunganui was the first port of call. From there we moved up the North Island to Clevedon, then on to Waiheke Island, then on to the Coromandel and finally to Auckland.
I have divided the trip into themed chapters, which I will add over the next few days. At this stage it is enough to say that we had a great time, we had a lot of laughs, we had a few goodbyes (tears), we met some fab people and, as Kate would say, we had an 'amazeballs' time.
